Lead Counselors

Each Lead Counselor is supervised by the Program Director.  Also, each Lead Counselor will provide supervision to 1 -3 Counselors.  The entire staff meets each day of the week to discuss camp issues and the campers' individual goals and progress.  The Leadership and Drama Coach Lead Counselors are responsible for writing progress notes each day, and writing the mid-term and end of the summer reports.

When not teaching their workshop, Lead Counselors act as social coaches, and enjoy participating in other activities, such as outdoor sports, arts and crafts, field trips, etc.  They even get opportunities to have cameo roles in the movie.

During training, Lead Counselors work to develop activities that follow the goals and objectives of their class.  All curriculum has to be approved by the Program Director.

Leadership and Social Skills

This position requires teaching leadership skills and pragmatics in fun and innovative ways that capture the interest of the students.  In this workshop, the children learn concepts related to Awareness of Self and Others, Body Language, Effective Conversation, Peer Issues, and Emotional Awareness.  This Lead Counselor also trains the CITs.

Candidates for this position must have, at minimum, a Bachelor's Degree.  Preference is given to those with a Master's or Doctoral Degree or candidacy toward a graduate degree in Psychology, Speech/Language or related fields.  Also, experience with special needs children is required.

The Drama Coach teaches the Drama Techniques workshop.  Each year, this is by far the most favorite workshop for the children.  In this class, the children learn drama exercises and games that center around gaining awareness and proficiency with body language, the elements of voice, and conversation.  In this workshop, the children, depending on age, participate in miming, silent movie skits, voice over projects, puppetry,  improvisation acting, etc.  Other elements of acting are also introduced in this workshop.  This workshop has a curriculum that parallels the curriculum found in mainstream acting courses.

Candidates for this position must have, at minimum, a Bachelor's Degree.  Preference is given to those with a Master's Degree or candidacy toward a graduate degree.  Also, experience in both acting and working with children is required.

Counselors

Counselors work directly with the children all day.  They engage fully in all workshops and support the Lead Counselors.  Also, counselors are generally assigned to one group of children and travel with them to each workshop.  They have the benefit of knowing their group across all workshops.  Lead Counselors look to the Counselors to help children who may be struggling with an issue or if two children need help to resolve a problem.

Also, during lunch and free time, counselors act as social coaches, and enjoy participating in other activities, such as outdoor sports, swimming, arts and crafts, weekly field trips, etc.  They even get opportunities to have cameo roles in the movie

Film Positions

Film First Assistant Director

The First AD works closely with the Film and Program Director, as well as the Camera Person/Editor.  The 1st AD wears many hats as we are a small company, and may be responsible for preparing the film shoots, managing the film crew and interns, and also directing some scenes.  During staff training, the filming schedule is developed to make the shoots more efficient.

Candidates for this position must have formal training in film and direction.  A background in acting and theater is not sufficient.   It is important that candidates have a working knowledge of how the eye of the camera translates to the screen.  Experience working with children is preferred.

Camera Person / Editor

The Camera Person / Editor works closely with the Film First Assistant Director and Film and Program Director.  There are 4 shoots each day, 4 days a week up until 2pm.  One day each week, the children are on a field trip, and unless we are filming on location, that day is dedicated to editing.

We start filming on the 3rd day of camp (Wednesday), and stop filming on the 3rd day of the last week (Week 6) of camp (Wednesday).  The movie is shown on the last day of camp at 10a.m. at the Fine Arts Center at Regis College.

Candidates for this position must have formal, post High School training in camera and film editing.  Since we are as low-budget as it gets, creativity is monumental.

Transportation is important, and candidates must be willing to work on site, as well as filming on location.  No off-site hours are permitted for editing.

Volunteers / Internships / Field Placements

Volunteers, Internships, and Field Placements

We also have Volunteer, Internships, and Field Placements available for students and early career individuals.  Roles within these positions depend on qualifications.  In the past, we have had Volunteers, Interns, and Field Placement students represent all the different positions (e.g., Counselors, Film Crew, Non-profit Organization Administration, etc.) at our program.  A 7-week commitment is required (July 2nd through August 17th).  Hours and schedules are somewhat flexible for Interns, but commitment to a consistent schedule is required.

Film Crew Interns

Film Crew Interns work with the crew in general or take on a specialty area such as continuity, assisting the producer, directors, camera person and editor, prop making, prop and costume acquisition, costume management, project management, communications and marketing.  This is a wonderful summer opportunity for students and individuals who are early in their career.

Peer Volunteers work in a chosen areas within our program as a focal point.  For example, motivated high school students interested in film have worked with the film crew.  Others interested in drama, have focused on the Drama Workshop, Arts and Crafts, etc.  Others have brought in musical instruments and had "jam sessions" with campers who also play musical instruments.  We are very flexible and work with our volunteers to help them achieve their goals while contributing to our program.

This is a great and fun way to serve your community and get great experience as well.   Learn more from our Intern Flyer.
